St. Anne's Mission & MinistriesSt. Anne's encourages all its members to discover the gifts and passions God has given them to partner with God's work in the world. We take seriously Jesus' prayer, and know that when we pray to God "You kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth just like it is in Heaven," that God expects us to help make that happen.
Here are some of the missions and ministries the people of St. Anne's are engaged in:
The Good Samaritan Clothing Exchange
Founded at St. Anne's, this Ecumenical ministry provides clothing for children and adults for a very small cost or free with clothing exchange. Located on Confederate Blvd. in the old elementary school, next to the Carver Price Center. Open Monday, Thursday, and Saturday, 9:00 AM - 12:00 noon. We can always use volunteers to help staff.
St. Anne's Food Pantry
St. Anne's gathers and distributes non-perishable food items to local residents in need. Several local churches and organizations contribute food to our pantry. Call for an appointment to pick up. Food donations welcome anytime.
Episcopal Church Women's United Thank Offering
The UTO little blue boxes are sent home with parishioners to collect loose change, so twice a year, we gather in our resources and send them to the national UTO office where they are used for grants for outreach programs around the world. Additionally, the Episcopal Church Women at St. Anne's engage in fellowship, learning opportunities, and give generously to other charitable causes.
Relay for Life Team
Each year, St. Anne's sponsors a Relay for Life team, raising money to help eradicate cancer. The Relay for Life event in Appomattox is generally the fourth weekend in May.
Habitat for Humanity
St. Anne's usually takes at least one weekend a year to work on a local Habitat home. The first home we worked on was for one of our own members and we recently celebrated that mortgage being paid off.
Pastoral Care and Healing Ministries
We have several trained pastoral care givers to visit those who are sick or need extra support. In addition, we offer special healing services where we take time during our worship to pray specifically for God's healing power to be made manifest in people's lives. Healing prayer teams are available during each of our Sunday morning services, and the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 5:30 PM. Prayer for healing at other times can be scheduled as needed.
Christian Formation Ministries
All of us are on a continual path of Christian growth and discipleship. St. Anne's offers a variety of Christian formation opportunities for all ages. Here are some of our regular offerings:
- Children's Christian Formation - Our children engage in faith formation in a variety of ways:
~ Children's Chapel for children preschool through first grade takes place in during the first part of our 9:30 AM Sunday service. Children return to their parents at the Peace.
~ Christian Formation is offered for all ages at least twice a month after church from about 10:45 - 11:30.
~ Young people of all ages are actively invited to participate in the worship service and other activities of the church.
~ Other formation activities include: Vacation Bible School Children and Family books, videos and resources in our library
~ Most of all, St. Anne's has a "It takes a village to raise a child" mentality, where adults are friends and mentors to our young people.
St. Anne's Youth - St. Anne's Youth Group events are scheduled monthly and include fun activities, outreach and service, and faith development. We also cooperate with other local youth groups to offer a variety of programs.
- Adult Sunday Forums- Occasional classes and discussions are offered on Sundays after church. See the announcements for current programs.
- Wednesday Evening Study - Wednesday evening 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM. Studies vary. See our announcments for the current study.
- Cursillo 4th Day Groups - Spiritual accountability groups meet weekly to encourage each other in their Christian walk.
- Daughters of the King - A women's religious order focused on prayer and service. We inducted the St. Anne's chapter of the DOK in April 2009.
